West York Developments Ltd. (formerly known as West York Demo) is a Vancouver-based company specializing in demolition, excavation, and abatement services. Established in 2002, the company has partnered with some of British Columbia's largest construction and development firms to deliver safe, efficient, and professional services for both indoor and outdoor projects.
The original site was functional but lacked modern appeal. It had separate pages for key information, leading to higher bounce rates due to poor navigation. Design elements were basic, with no emphasis on visuals like project galleries or statistics, and it didn't effectively communicate the company's values or mission. Mobile responsiveness was likely inadequate, as older sites often are. The rebranding to West York Developments required a fresh identity that aligned with industry standards for construction firms—focusing on safety, innovation, and community impact—while improving SEO and lead generation.
Key pain points included:
The goal was to create a site that "clears the way" for user understanding, mirroring the company's tagline of building safer foundations.

Visual Hierarchy: Bold hero with tagline "Trusted Name. Trusted Results." followed by stats (e.g., years of experience, projects completed) to build credibility.

Responsive Design: Mobile-first approach, with sections stacking vertically.

Color and Fonts: Assumed modern scheme—earth tones (grays, blues) for construction trust; sans-serif fonts for readability.

Engagement Features: Added testimonials, project link, and contact form to drive conversions.

Accessibility: Ensured WCAG compliance with alt text for icons and sufficient contrast.
Key features delivered included:
As lead UX/UI designer and developer, I owned the complete redesign and launch of westyorkdevelopments.ca. This included stakeholder interviews with the company owner, competitive analysis of similar demolition and construction sites, information architecture planning and wireframing. Tools used: Figma for prototyping, Adobe XD for initial sketches, and user testing via remote sessions. The project spanned 4 weeks, with a focus on responsive design for desktop and mobile plus full site build and launch using WordPress + Elementor.
The below visuals demonstrate how I transformed the pub’s online presence and menu usability through thoughtful design.

COMPANY feedback

“Richard didn’t just redesign our website and menus — he transformed how our pub shows up to the community. Our online presence had felt outdated for years, and we struggled to highlight what makes St. James’s Well special: our featured dishes, live music nights, and sports promotions. Richard brought all of that to life with a modern design that finally reflects who we are. He also solved a major operational headache. Updating menu items or prices used to require technical skills or digging into HTML. Richard built a system that lets our staff make changes instantly and confidently — a real game changer. Customers constantly tell us how much easier the site is to use, and we’ve seen a clear boost in engagement around food specials, music events, and game‑day promotions. Richard understood our brand, respected our pub’s character, and delivered far more than we expected.”
